GDD Visit June 2015

As part of the developing relationship between the West Midlands and the Guangzhou Development District (GDD), a party of 5 representatives from GDD visited the West Midlands from the 25th to 26th June. The party from GDD consisted of:

  • Mr LI Hongwei, 李红卫, Vice-Chairman of the administrative committee of GDD
  • Ms XU Fang, 许芳, Deputy Governor of Luogang District, Guangzhou
  • Mr SUN Liping, 孙礼平, Director of the Education Bureau of Luogang District, Guangzhou
  • Mr NI Teng, 倪腾, Chief of the Torch Service Centre for Hi-Tech Business Startups, GDD
  • Ms LIU Xiangxia, 刘湘霞, Chief of the Regional Division, Guangzhou DRC

25th June

After visiting Shrewsbury School in the afternoon, the GDD representatives attended a dinner as Stafford County Council’s County Building hosted by Cllr Philip Atkins, Leader of Staffordshire County Council.This working dinner was also attended by John van der Laarschot Chief Executive of Stoke on Trent City Council, Jonathan Dale and John Carr of the Stoke & Staffordshire LEP, Paul Hodgkinson from Keele University and Ken Stepney of JCB Ltd.

26th June

The party visited Perkins Engines Ltd in Stafford and then travelled down to visit the Institute of Translational Medicine in Birmingham. The party finished the day at Coventry University where they were welcomed by David Pilsbury, DVC for International Development at the University and visited the School of Engineering. An evening reception was hosted at Coventry Guild Hall by Cllr Ann Lucas, Leader of Coventry City Council and the Mayor of Coventry, Cllr Michael Hammon.
